Fresh from the farm: Shoppers mutiny against stores for markets' bounty

Lebanon Daily News, October 19th, 2008

Every Saturday is market day for Bonnie Dubbs. The Palmyra woman brings her grandson to the Palmyra Producer-Only Farmers’ Market to stock up on locally grown fruits and vegetables. She says she doesn’t mind paying a higher price in exchange for higher quality and support of area farmers. “I want to help the local economy and local growers,” Dubbs said as her grandson purchased a small container of apple cider. “The food is a lot fresher, and you know it comes right from the farm.” For county residents, the local food trend is not so much about finding a good bargain. Rather, it’s the quality of the produce, eating healthier and supporting local growers that matters to regular market-goers.
